Social Cleavages in Russia
Political Participation
Quantitative data
Qualitative Analysis
The author of Russia's Liberal Project: State-society Relations in the Transition from Communism claims that constant establishment of political parties and continuous changes in those parties gave little chance for party identification to develop. Instability in party identification can lead to increasing tensions between parties. This shows that Russia's political cleavage acts as a coinciding cleavage that brings negative impact and weakens the society.
Why did we choose these
We chose these social cleavages because they show a general view of Russia and they are the main splits in Russia today. Furthermore, these cleavages are closely linked together and they sometimes translate into political oppositions. In addition, the social cleavages show conflicts and issues that remains to be unresolved in the Russian society.
